The International Festival is part of the annual Memphis in May celebrations. Each year the activities focus on a different country and culture - Spain in 2007. Events take place all over the city in schools, museums and public spaces.

One of the South's leading crafts events, the Pink Palace Crafts Fair attracts over 30,000 visitors each year to Audubon Park in Memphis. Over 30 years old, all proceeds from the fair go towards benefitting the Memphis Museum System.

Durden Gallery

Durden Gallery houses an excellent selection of sculpture, painting, photography and pottery at sane prices. Owner Brenda Durden claims no training in fine arts, but has assembled a collection of local artists with flair.

Schwab's Dry Goods

If they don't have it at Schwab's Dry Goods emporium, originally opened in 1876, you don't need it. Shoppers can pick up everything from straw cowboy hats to dollar neckties, plastic jewellery and essential voodoo supplies.

Sun Studio Gift Shop

The store at Sun Studios, the real birthplace of rock 'n' roll, features recordings and logo wear, as well as those must-have Elvis glasses. The prices are reasonable and you can visit even if you don't take the studio tour.

Swanky's Taco Shop

Swanky's, in Germantown, serves gigantic burritos and other Mexican fare, but the tequila bar with its 35 offerings is the real attraction. On weekend nights, the tables are unbolted from the floor to make room for dancing, which is inevitable following a few shots.

Young Avenue Deli

The Young Avenue Deli is a favourite with the casual, hard-working residents of Midtown's Cooper-Young neighbourhood. Its roomy interior offers billiards and darts, live music, a huge beer list and mouth-watering fried pickles. There's an ample menu of deli and pub grub too.

Ernestine & Hazel's

Located in a former South Main brothel-turned-hotel, Ernestine & Hazel's has live music, is full of young professionals and is great for people-watching.

Raiford's Hollywood Disco

Raiford's Hollywood caters to college students but is still popular with the original disco crowd. Owner Robert Raiford spins tunes and can often be seen sporting a sequinned cape on the dance floor.
